Riptide Swim Club

Riptide had a very exciting state meet.  Riptide has been in existence for only 18 months and has already had swimmers compete in every state meet that has been held.  Short Course State meet is in March and the Long Course State Meet is in July.  This year they had a 100% increase in the number of swimmers that qualified for the Louisiana Long Course Championship Meet.  The meet was held in Sulphur, Louisiana July 17-20.

Jack Chang qualified for his first state meet in the Men’s 9-10 50 meter Backstroke.  Jack was a little intimidated with the importance and size of the meet.  However, he swam it like a champion and had a lifetime best time of 45.43.

Levon McCabe also qualified for his first state championship meet.  He participated in the Men’s 15-16 100 Free and the 50 Free.

Adam Robert qualified for the maximum amount of swims you are able to compete in at the state meet.  Over a 4 day period, Adam swam 7 events.  This is Adam’s 2^nd Long Course Championship Meet.  Adam dropped over 6 seconds in the Men’s 11-12 400 Free.  He swam over 2 seconds faster in the 100 Free and 100 Back and 1.36 seconds faster in the 50 Back.  Adam placed 6^th in the 100 Free and the 200 IM; 7^th in the 400 Free and the 100 Back;  8^th in the 50 Back, 10^th in the 100 Fly and 14^th in the 200 Free.  Overall Adam scored 71 points for Riptide.

Trey Trahan qualified for his 2^nd Long Course State Championship Meet.  Trey swims in a Prelim/Final type of Meet.  As in the Olympics swimmers, race their first trial in the morning and if they finish in the top 16 places in that event; they must swim it again in the afternoon to get a final placement.  Trey qualified to comeback in 5 out of 6 events.  This is an extra special feat, because Trey just returned to swimming 3 weeks before state because of a collar bone injury in the beginning of the summer.   Trey dropped almost 6 seconds in his 200 Back; just over 5 seconds in his 100 back.  Additional events Trey dropped time in are the Men’s 13-14 100 Free, 50 Free and the Men’s 19 and Under 50 Free.  Trey’s overall placement was 8^th in the 100 Back, 11^th in the 200 Back and 50 Free, 14^th in the 100 Free and 15^th in the 100 Fly.  Trey scored 30 points for Riptide.
